Face biometrics at borders

Biometric systems make it possible to verify an individual’s identity through a highly reliable and minimally intrusive automated process. They are essential for streamlining the flow of people across borders.

Presentation attack detection

These methods must determine whether a malicious user of a biometric system is attempting to impersonate a genuine user through the use of photographs, videos, masks, makeup, and other ruses.

Morphing attack detection

This is a type of presentation attack that is difficult to detect, in which the biometric characteristics of two individuals are combined within the electronic passport to deceive the biometric border control system.

Computer vision

Computer vision is the application of artificial intelligence algorithms to images or videos to automatically perform tasks such as detection, segmentation, extraction, and shape classification.

Intelligent video surveillance

Smart cameras apply machine learning and computer vision algorithms in security settings, such as for detecting suspicious behaviour or abandoned objects.

Bio-inspired systems

Bio-inspired computing uses computational models based on biological and natural principles to solve real-world problems. Biometric systems are one of the many possible applications.
